New apartments and green spaces planned for former Nestle factory

The former site of a Nestle factory in Hayes, Hillingdon is set for renovation works to transform it into both open and living spaces.

Barratt London is managing the restoration project that Forms a facet of a regeneration plan, with the ambition of creating 1,386 homes along with over 500 jobs. Firms working on development projects can use brochure printing services to create literature that outlines the intended scheme to the general public.

The Hayes site is steeped in history. The factory previously belonged to a strong man who featured in several films of Charlie Chaplin. Local legend suggest that Eugene Sandow invested everything in the Sandow Cocoa Works on retiring from his Hollywood career.

The Cocoa Works, located in Nestles Avenue, changed hands in 1929 and became the first factory based outside Switzerland to produce Nestle’s own Milky Bar.

Elements of the original building and its past will be celebrated and in some cases retained in the renovation. The factory’s south facing exterior, original staircase and Art Deco style entrance will all remain along with antiquated machinery that will be incorporated into the design. The factory’s original canteen building is being refitted and given to Hillingdon Council for local community use.

Areas of the site are designated for green spaces including shared gardens for residents and a children’s play park.

The new apartments will be known as Hayes Village with prices expected to start at £325,000.
