Hillingdon addresses fly-tipping and poor behaviour

Hillingdon Council is cracking down on problems like antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping.

Over £100,000 is being invested in a policy designed to reduce illegal activity across the borough. CCTV cameras will be used to deter people from engaging in misbehaviour. Poster printing in Hayes could be employed to make individuals aware of the consequences of their actions.

Douglas Mills, who serves on Hillingdon Council, stated:

“Fly-tipping is a nationwide problem that sadly Hillingdon isn't immune to. It's a crime that blights people’s lives and we're determined to identify and prosecute those who do it, as well as curb other Forms of nuisance behaviour.”

Councillor Mills has two clear priorities. He wants local residents to feel secure and he hopes that they can enjoy living in a clean neighbourhood. He believes that the CCTV cameras will work well in helping him to achieve his goals.

For Councillor Mills, CCTV cameras are ideal because they facilitate the collection of high quality evidence. Furthermore, he is impressed with how mobile they are. Someone who ignores their responsibilities can be fined £50,000. It is even possible for a serious offender to receive a prison sentence of one year.

On a national basis, about a million incidents of fly-tipping occurred last year. This amount of illicit waste disposal meant that almost £50 million was spent on cleaning up the mess.
