Dementia-friendly film screening headed for Hayes

A venue in Hayes is set to show a classic movie at a special screening suited to those suffering from dementia.

The Beck Theatre based in Hayes will be screening the celebrated technicolour western Calamity Jane this summer. The film is part of the venue’s regular programme for those with dementia. The theatre recognises that cinema is a powerful way for many to reconnect with their memories and other people, and it understands that these benefits are not always easily accessible for dementia sufferers but is dedicated to creating a relaxed and safe environment for them.

Cinemas and theatres offering specialist programmes sometimes use brochure printing services to create informational Booklets outlining upcoming events and the different viewing options available.

Starring Doris Day, Howard Keel and Philip Carey, Calamity Jane tells the tale of a sharpshooter who falls in love with her best friend, Wild Bill Hickok. The music comedy was released in 1953 by Warner Brothers and won an Oscar and multiple nominations for other awards. In 1961, the film’s songs were brought to the stage in a musical production that enjoys continuing success around the world.

The dementia-friendly screening of Calamity Jane will take place at the Beck Theatre, on Grange Road in Hayes on Monday, July 11. Tickets available for the film are priced at £4 per person.
