The electronic indie rock band Low Island, presented by FORM, is due to play a series of gigs in the new year, including one in South Birmingham towards the end of February.
The band hails from Oxford and got together by accident, as a result of collaboration on a theatrical score by two friends. The band has drawn some favourable comparisons with established artists such as Radiohead and Grizzly Bear.
This Oxfordian quartet consists of Carlos Posada, who provides vocals and is a multi-instrumentalist; Jamie Jay, on vocals, electronics, and production; bassist Jacob Lively, and jazz drummer Felix Higginbottom. Carlos and Jamie were previously in an alt-rock band with Jacob.
Low Island gained considerable airplay on the evidence of only four songs, thanks to Tom Robinson and Lauren Laverne amongst others. The group’s first EP titled ‘Just About Somewhere’, achieved more than 700,000 Spotify plays and an initial live show sold out.
This success effectively opened the door to touring and the festival circuit. The band released several follow-up EPs, and a debut album ‘If I Could Have It All Again’ attracted numerous positive reviews. The same can also be said of the band’s latest release ‘Life in Miniature’.
Tickets for the South Birmingham show cost £13.20, inclusive of a booking fee. Organisers of shows such as this should consider banner printing when promoting concerts or musical events.
Low Island's gig has a starting time of 7:30pm on Thursday 23rd February at The Hare and Hounds in South Birmingham.
