South Birmingham to experience performance of novelty

The pop vehicle of musician Tom O'Connell, called Novelty Island, is currently on tour and will be arriving to play in South Birmingham in mid-May.

This Liverpool-based songwriter/producer's work has evolved, taking on many guises. In 2018, he decided to relocate down to the famous Abbey Road complex.

It was the beginning of Novelty Island, a musical project combining classical pop with electronic sounds and clever lyrics. Tom utilised Damon Albarn’s Studio 13 as well as Abbey Road's Studios 2 and 3, developing and selecting the number of tracks for his first LP.

Satisfied, he went back to Merseyside, subsequently releasing ‘How Are You Coping with This Century?’ in 2018. The record received a positive critical response from 'Shindig' magazine, not to mention backing from Amazing Radio and the BBC's 6 Music. It has since been followed up by ‘Wallsend Weekend Television’ and 'Think Like a Key Music'.

The stage version of Novelty Island came out post-pandemic as a support act for The Pale White on their nationwide tour. Tom finished his own UK headlining tour in 2022 and then went on to perform at Glastonbury.

Tickets cost £11, inclusive of a booking fee. Graphic design can contribute significantly to the branding of a band or musical event.

Novelty Island's gig has a starting time of 7.30pm on Thursday, May 18 at The Hare and Hounds, South Birmingham.
