South Birmingham makes time for Space

The northern Indie rock band Space is on tour and due to play a gig in South Birmingham at the end of May.

They hail from Liverpool and got together in 1993, achieving considerable success in the mid-1990s. This included releasing three albums and several chart hit singles, notably "Neighbourhood," "Female of the Species" and "The Ballad of Tom Jones"( with Cerys Matthews). The group subsequently went on to collaborate in 1999 with Tom Jones himself.

1960s guitar rock bands, in particular, The Who and The Kinks were the inspiration for the Space sound. Their preference was for electronic music and sampling that leant heavily on techno, hip hop and classic movie tracks. This was often combined with dark, exaggerated, but essentially funny lyrics.

They eventually broke up in 2005 but reformed in 2011, a short time after the death of drummer Andy Parle. It was then revealed that Tommy Scott and Franny Griffiths would be performing again with new members Phil Hartly and Allan Jones. Their latest album, "Music For Pleasure Music For Pain" was released in 2021.

Tickets cost £19.25 inclusive of booking fee and there is a minimum age limit of 18. Promotional Products can be a useful resource when it comes to publicising a forthcoming musical event.

The Space gig has a starting time of 7pm on Thursday 27th May at The Hare and Hounds, South Birmingham.
