South Birmingham is set to sample soul group

The cinematic Australian soul band Surprise Chef, presented by Leftfoot, is due to play a gig in South Birmingham towards the end of August.

This Melbourne foursome was founded in 2017. Their sound draws on ‘70s film music and funky jazz elements, as well as the fundamental of hip-hop, taking both old and new elements of the genre to push its boundaries.

Surprise Chef's initial albums such as Daylight Savings, described as "effortlessly lovable" by NME, created a dedicated fanbase and spread their music around the world. They found a happy home on the Big Crown Records label becoming part of a collection of classic and modern sounds that in turn influenced their work.

The band is based in a studio affectionately known as The College of Knowledge, a 100-year-old house that shares its name with an independent artist-inspired record company. The label released Surprise Chef's first pressings, together with those from Melbourne’s developing funk/soul scene. In their latest album, now due for release, they take a look at the future in the single ‘Velodrome’.

Tickets cost £15.40 inclusive of a booking fee. Banner printing is an effective way of advertising a forthcoming concert or musical event.

Surprise Chef's gig has a starting time of 7:30 pm on Wednesday, August 24 at The Hare and Hounds, South Birmingham.
