South Birmingham anticipates the arrival of folk artist

The Irish folk singer John Francis Flynn is about to go on tour, and is due to play a gig in South Birmingham at the end of January.

This Dublin-based guitarist and flautist's work is firmly rooted in the genre of traditional music. He grew up playing the tin whistle and loving jazz and experimental sounds, all encouraged by his dad. An original member of the well-known group Skipper’s Alley, Flynn spent much time touring around the US and Europe.

Together with tunes and improvised material acquired on his journey, Flynn has recorded a wide range of songs, taking inspiration from tracks by Shirley Collins and Traveller Paddy Quilligan, as well as folk revivalist and activist Ewan MacColl.

His initial solo album, 'I Would Not Live Always', was given a warm reception, and collected two RTE Folk Awards. This included coming top of the list of 'Folk Albums of the Year’. The Guardian said of it:
'Human experience burns ferociously in this extraordinary debut from the uncompromising Irish artist.'

His follow-up album, 'Look Over The Wall, See The Sky’, has just been released.

Tickets cost £15.40 inclusive of a transaction fee. Banner printing can be effective in the promotion of a future concert or musical event like this one.

John Francis Flynn's gig has a starting time of 7.30pm on Thursday 25 January at Hare & Hounds, South Birmingham.
