South Birmingham anticipates arrival of folk-rock musician

American singer/songwriter, Laura Stevenson, is on tour and due to play a gig in South Birmingham in mid-April.

She comes from Long Island and was born into a musical clan. Her maternal grandparents were the composer Harry Simeone and Margaret McCravy (professional name McCrae), who recorded and toured with Benny Goodman.

At five years old, Laura began to play the piano and in High School sang with various choirs. Although, it was her later teens before she took up the guitar and wrote songs. These were heavily influenced by artists such as Neil Young, Carole King and Leonard Cohen.

Initially, Laura played in Long Island bands and then early in her 20s relocated to Brooklyn, now performing original material. 2010 saw that all-important debut album appear entitled only,' A Record', and the following year the more substantive 'Sit Resist'. Two albums that together plus touring, secured her committed fans.

13 songs make up 'Wheel', and in recording this, Laura relinquished much creative say by enlisting Kevin McMahon as producer. 'The Big Freeze' represented a much darker departure whilst her most recent album is the self-titled 'Laura Stevenson'.

Tickets cost £13.20 inclusive of a booking fee. Poster printing can be a simple way of promoting a forthcoming musical or theatrical event.

Laura Stevenson's gig has a starting time of 7.30pm on Tuesday 12th April at The Hare & Hounds, South Birmingham.
