Search begins for canine star in South Birmingham

A campaign has been launched to find the next celebrity dog among the latest litter of puppies to arrive at South Birmingham police service’s headquarters.

Following a successful social media campaign which named the service’s top dog of 2012, this year’s ‘Pup Idol’ will be covered on video site YouTube, meaning members of the public can follow the progress.

The campaign is designed to give the public an insight into how police dogs are bred and raised. It should also help members of the community to feel more in tune with how the local police service works.

Alongside Posters, leaflets and Booklets which have been produced using full colour printing, South Birmingham police service is increasingly turning to social media channels like Twitter and YouTube to connect with locals.

Residents will be able to tune into YouTube to see videos of the litter of puppies, which have all been given names beginning with the letter 'O' as they were born into the 'O' litter at the police service.

The mother of the puppies is Grace, a spaniel who was chosen for her responsiveness, temperament and stability. A spokesperson for South Birmingham police service said:

“Mum Grace was born into the breed scheme in August 2009. This is her second litter and, in line with Kennel Club guidelines, she’ll have no more than four in her lifetime and only one in any 12-month period. In between, she enjoys life at home with volunteers as a family pet.”

More information on the progress of the puppies can be found by following the South Birmingham police service on Twitter.
