Redditch charity asks for more volunteers

A charitable organisation which assists homeless young people, Redditch Nightstop, has requested that additional volunteers from the community come forward. Redditch Nightstop places homeless individuals in spare rooms.

A spokesperson for the charity has said:

“The more hosts we have the better as it avoids young people being left in isolation. Even one night on the scheme is so worthwhile for them.”

Redditch Nightstop may use the services of a Print company in South Birmingham for advertising purposes. During the last two years, the outfit managed to provide shelter for approximately 180 people who were aged between 16 and 25, but the hope is that more can be achieved if large numbers of local volunteers can be encouraged to make a commitment.

The young people who are housed by the project go through a vetting process, so volunteers do not have to be concerned about the likely behaviour of their guests. Sometimes, the beneficiaries of the charity only require emergency accommodation for a single night. On occasion, they are offered accommodation for a longer time period, with six or nine months of supported lodging a fairly commonplace offer.

The value of the extended supported lodging is that the young folk can receive quite a lot of support during their stay. This means that they can be ready for the challenges of being independent when the time is right for them to move forward with their lives.
