The wind turbine design has never been used inside the UK before. It is hoped that this variety of turbine will not have a significant environmental impact in terms of aesthetics. Furthermore, the turbines are fitted with vertical blades that are less likely to kill birds in comparison to conventional blades. Printing services in south Birmingham could be used to showcase the innovatory aspects of the design.
Two turbines are to be located alongside an incinerator. A German business called Direct Tech is behind the initiative. The site will also feature charging points for electric vehicles.
The development obtained planning permission from the local authority and the turbines will be 60 feet tall. Councillor Peter Douglas Osborn expressed a degree of scepticism about the new system. However, Councillor Bob Beauchamp said:
“We should be in amongst the leaders with this. Everyone is concerned about emissions and this place looks to create better air quality in this city.”
The city authorities are clear that something must be done about pollution from cars and commercial vehicles. One solution could be the imposition of a zone for reduced emissions. The plan is that charges could be used to safeguard health in the vicinity of central Birmingham.
