The local Mayor, other dignitaries and members of the business community attended the official opening of the charge point. Chargemaster, the contractor which did the work, could promote their activities by using digital Business Cards from South Birmingham. David Martell, the chief executive for Chargemaster, has said:
“We’re thrilled to have supplied two new rapid charging points in Redditch creating an electric vehicle charging infrastructure which will help both consumers and businesses embrace the increasing range of electric and plug-in cars available in the marketplace.”
Worcester City Council has played a key role in enabling the project. They have managed to secure £150,000 from the contractor and £450,000 from another source. The funding made available by the Office for Low Emissions has ensured that it will be possible to put in another charge point as well as the one at the business centre. This will be situated at Abbey Stadium.
Councillor Debbie Taylor, who is a representative of Redditch Council, has expressed her satisfaction at the way things have progressed. As a specialist in the delivery of environmental services, she has confidence in the contribution which electric cars could make in terms of reducing carbon emissions. Further, she has observed that such cars do not generate other Forms of air pollution in the same way as traditional vehicles.
