Community games held at Cookhill

Cookhill Cricket Club has recently hosted a cultural and sporting event for residents, attracting in excess of 150 people.

The event was meant to build on the legacy of the Olympics and Paralympics that took place in London back in 2012. Government money had been allocated to the games in Cookhill, and a partnership approach was used for the purpose of delivery.

Local sporting clubs participated and the YMCA helped to turn the event into a reality. The sports that were played included both cricket and football. In addition, lasers were used to shoot clay pigeons.

A type of boxing, called bouncy boxing, also took place. The competition was open to children of different ages, but Ellis Bishop, aged 11, was the winner. The bouncy boxing was held in order to commemorate the life of Craig Underwood.

If the games are to set to be held during 2015, then there could be a need to generate additional publicity. It may well be that printing services in South Birmingham are utilised in order to produce leaflets.

Two non-profits were beneficiaries of the day. One of the local charities aims to grant the wishes of children affected by disabilities, while the other aspires to create awareness of the need for defibrillators.

Organiser Bill Harris told the Redditch Advertiser:

“It was a great and enjoyable day for all who attended.”
