The significant changes in bus services are being rolled out by National Express West Midlands (NEWB). The managing director at NEWB is Tom Stables. Mr Stables explained:
“We are making these changes to our bus routes in south Birmingham to improve services and deal with the impact of congestion on buses.”
The rationale for the transformation in services is clear. Congestion has grown a lot, especially within the core of the city. Average bus speeds have been declining over the last few years. Typical bus speed is currently below six miles per hour in parts of Birmingham. If buses travel at really slow speeds, then this can cause problems for travellers and the environment. Commuters can be badly affected.
NEWB decided to launch a consultation, and this was important to build support for the route adjustments. Transport for West Midlands and Birmingham City Council (BCC) have played their part in addressing the issue of congestion.
Announcements and improvements such as these can be promoted using local printing services.
The South Birmingham network will be altered between Warwick Road and Hagley Road. Before the end of July, the new design shall be implemented, and passengers will adjust their journeys accordingly. Contactless payment is to be enabled by fresh ticket machines. Millions of pounds have been invested to make this possible.
