Black Sabbath say goodbye in Birmingham

Heavy metal giant Black Sabbath has played its final gig at the NEC in Birmingham.

The last ever concert by Black Sabbath lasted for two hours and the veteran rockers performed 15 tracks on the evening. Demand for poster printing in South Birmingham may have received a boost from the event.

Prior to the show, lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne told the BBC:

"I remember playing the Crown pub in Birmingham and thinking, 'This'll be good for a couple of years - drink a few beers and have a jam.' But it was the beginning of the most incredible adventure you could think of. I've had the best life out of it.”

The legendary group was created back in 1968. The founding members of the band were Osbourne, Bill Ward, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi. Ward was the drummer and stopped playing with Black Sabbath during the course of 2012.

At the event, Black Sabbath largely stuck to celebrating its early music. The group did not play many songs released more recently than 1972. Furthermore, they finished up with a performance of Paranoid, their initial breakthrough hit.

Osbourne, who is 68, took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the fans. Enthusiasts had come to see the concert from around the globe. Several admirers of Black Sabbath were moved by the occasion. An exhibition of memorabilia connected with the group should be going on tour next year.
