Alternative rockers destined for South Birmingham

The cult rock band, Icicle Works, is embarking on a tour and is due to play a gig in South Birmingham in mid-November.

This alt-rock outfit formed in Liverpool in 1980 and takes its name from a Sci-Fi short story by Frederick Pohl. They were part of the city's successful neo-psychedelia scene in the 80s, including Teardrop Explodes.

The original line-up consisted of Ian McNabb (vocals, guitar) and Chris Layhe (bass, vocals, keyboards) with Chris Sharrock on drums. Writing their own songs, their influences encompassed, a broad spectrum from The Who to Be Bop Deluxe.

Icicle Works' first, and most successful hit single, 'Love is a Wonderful Colour' (1983) charted at 15, in the UK They released four well-received albums in four years (1984 to 1988) having hits on both Atlantic shores.

Ian McNabb eventually went solo and picked up a Mercury Prize in 1994 for his LP 'Head Like A Rock', releasing more than 20 albums in total. In 2023, he and Chris Layhe agreed to reunite for several acoustic shows.

Tickets cost £27.50 inclusive of a transaction fee. The importance of brochure printing shouldn't be underestimated when it comes to the promotion of a concert or musical event.

The Icicle Works gig has a starting time of 7.30 pm on Sunday 17th November at Hare & Hounds, Birmingham.
