Music fans save popular Sheffield venue

A Sheffield music venue under threat of closure has been saved by its supporters.

Much-needed funds from fans have rescued Dryad Works, a venue in Parkwood Springs that was facing imminent closure. The event space has proved its local popularity with the overwhelming support it has received to ensure it survives under lockdown restrictions.

The Sheffield venue is well-known for its events that have seen famous DJs travel from far-flung destinations to take to the stage. The venue also provides a place where local artists have been able to collaborate, and since 2019, when it was originally established, it has quickly become a prominent part of the city’s independent music scene.

The consecutive government lockdowns since last year have put the venue in danger, however, with restrictions and social distancing advisories putting it under extreme financial pressure.

Now, a recent crowdfunding campaign has come through for the venue, allowing it to keep running. Such organising appeals can sometimes use flyer printing services to create colourful leaflets that spread the word throughout local communities.

Founder Joe Taylor commented to The Star:

“The support and commitment we've had from the local community and the wider UK music community is without a doubt the most amazing and inspiring thing we have ever witnessed.”

Taylor added that Dryad Works has received over £40,000 in support, securing its future.
