Potters Bar wakeboarding teen gets GB call

A teenage wakeboarder from Potters Bar has seen his talents rewarded with a call up to the GB Wakeboarding side for the new season.

Lucas McNally, 14, will now have the chance to learn from the coaching staff at national level, with the possibility of European Championship – and even World Championship – qualification as his reward.

The teenager started out as a snowboarder, before switching to wakeboarding after trying it for the first time as an eight-year-old taking a holiday with his family. There are a number of different Forms of the sport, but McNally’s preferred kind is ‘boat’ wakeboarding. He has already experienced considerable success – regularly achieving top five finishes within his age range at the AOD Stop Tour, despite suffering injuries like ligament damage to both ankles.

Now, should he get the opportunity to represent his country at the highest level, he will doubtless receive vociferous support from the local community – who can rely on the banner printing expertise of Print companies in Potters Bar to help them get behind him. McNally told the Welwyn Hatfield Timesthat he was determined to make the grade, saying:

“It means I have to train a lot harder because I’m representing Great Britain. I’m hoping to get picked for the Euros this year.”

His mother Julia confirmed that they were now actively looking to secure the sponsorship to help cover equipment and competition costs.
