Potters Bar to enjoy enchanting theatre

A magical show will be on stage in Potters Bar this winter at a popular local theatre.

Fans of romance and enchantment in Potters Bar are in luck this February. Wyllyotts Theatre will be welcoming a wintertime production of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic “The Sorcerer” presented by Southgate Opera.

Theatres presenting plays and musicals often contact specialist printing services to create branded programmes that those attending can take home with them as keepsakes.

The two-act comic opera invites audiences to step into Ploverleigh village and meet the mischievous sorcerer John Wellington Wells in a tale where laughter and love collide. When Wells creates a love potion and the villagers drink it at an afternoon tea, they find themselves falling madly for the first person hey encounter, which makes for unexpected and hilarious matches.

First performed on stage in 1877, the production was the third collaboration between Gilbert and Sullivan. Its plot was taken from a Christmas story written by Gilbert called “An Elixir of Love” that was published in a weekly periodical of the era called The Graphic.

The Sorcerer will now be on stage at Wyllyotts Theatre from Wednesday, February 12 to Saturday, February 15 Feb at various times. Tickets are available priced between £15 and £21, and the theatre can be found at Wyllyotts Place in Potters Bar.
