Potters Bar is set to swing

The UK big band Down For The Count All Stars is touring its show ‘A Century Of Swing’ and is due to play Potters Bar at the beginning of April.

This revives the distinctive sounds of an energetic era energy utilising skilled musicianship. The band frequently appears at jazz clubs, including Le Caveau de la Huchette in Paris, and plays the festival circuit, notably the London Jazz Festival, not to mention featuring on BBC Radio.

Down for the Count’s show is a celebration of Swing that takes the audience on a high-speed journey through the best of the genre. This involves tracing its roots in the 1920s USA up until its zenith in the 1930s, 1940s and then latterly into the 1950s.

The show incorporates instrumental pieces by Glen Miller and Duke Ellington, as well as vocal gems from Ella FitzGerald and Nat 'King’ Cole. These are all delivered with Down for the Count’s own natural wit and sense of humour.

The band also presents their own versions of standard jazz tracks, which are taken from their latest album, bringing the celebrated genre into the modern era.
