The Glenn Miller Orchestra’s 'In The Mood For Christmas' is due to entertain in Potters Bar at the end of November.
Band-leader Ray McVey, along with Glenn Miller Productions based in New York, formed this quintessential orchestra. It is true to the original line-up of leader, five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, and three on rhythm, as well as solo male and female singers.
In the 1940s, dance outfits were known for having their own signature tune, and Glenn Miller's was 'Moonlight Serenade'. The vocalists also sing together as members of The Moonlight Serenaders, and some of the orchestra members also perform Dixieland numbers under the name The Uptown Hall Gang.
The orchestra's repertoire presently consists of over 200 scores. These include both Army/Air Force and civilian arrangements, along with those from Billy May, Jerry Gray, and Bill Finegan.
This concert is a special presentation of Glenn Miller's original versions of traditional Christmas songs combined with more familiar Miller numbers. It should appeal to a broad spectrum of people, of all ages, from dedicated fans to the complete novice.
