A young runner from Potters Bar enjoyed real success at this year’s Sainsbury’s School Games, when she won the gold medal for the 800 metres.
Isabelle Boffey, aged 15, had already experienced a fantastic season before she made her way to the Regional Athletics Centre in Manchester for this prestigious tournament.
This had seen her achieve significant victories at the Schools International, England Schools and England Under-17 Championships – making this latest triumph the icing on the cake.
Boffey secured the medal with a time of 2:14.43 minutes, showing her determination to finish the season on a high note and with another podium appearance.
It was the first time the pupil from Dame Alice Owen’s School had competed at this event – marking the best possible introduction for her – and afterwards she told the Welwyn Hatfield Times how much she had enjoyed it:
“It’s my first School Games and first year of Under-17s. It’s been good. It’s amazing, there are so many people here and everyone is really nice. I loved the opening ceremony, there was so much entertainment and singers.”
Boffey’s family and friends can always rely on those places that supply banner printing in Potters Bar if they want to show their support for her at events like these.
This event, funded by Sport England, took place over four days and involved 12 sports. The Youth Sport Trust organised it.
