What's Happening in Potters Bar, England…

The shopping centre in High Barnet, near Potters Bar, is known as The Spires and it takes its name from the two distinctive spires either side of the entrance. They were originally part of a Methodist church which stood on the site, but they had been threatened. There are Plans to renovate the building and two different proposals had been put forward, one of which would see the spires’ removal.

However, it seems that they might now be saved after a strong public response, because it seems most local people would prefer the façade to be retained.

Thanks to the wonders of digital printing, clear sets of Plans went on display in one of the empty retail units within the shopping centre, and the response since then has been significant, with most people in favour of keeping the spires.

The owners of the centre have responded and now plan on complying with public demand. However, plenty of renovation work will still be carried out.

An official statement from the shopping centre has said:

“We are committed to improving the retail and leisure offer at The Spires Shopping Centre in line with the needs of the local community. The facelift to the exterior of the centre, a more open entrance and improved retail units will help to attract exciting new retailers and restaurants to Barnet.”

One new arrival is set to be Carluccio’s, the Italian restaurant chain, and it is hoped that further well-known names will follow after the work is completed.Get a Free Quote for Plans
