Beatles tribute band to play Cuffley Hall

Beatles fans in Potters Bar will get a rare opportunity to hear many of the band’s greatest hits performed live when tribute act ‘Imagine… The Beatles’ performs at nearby Cuffley Hall. However, poster printing has not yet begun in earnest, as the band isn’t due until August.

Rob Simpson, who takes on the role of McCartney for the Beatlemania show, says that the band tries and cover a broad selection, rather than focusing on one particular era. The show features 35 songs, but even then the band has to decide to give some classics a miss. There’s no danger of being short of material. Simpson said:

“They’ve got so many great songs, fast ones, slow ones. Everyone knows all the words and it’s just fantastic music.”

An electrician, Simpson started the band 11 years ago for a bit of fun, but its popularity grew rapidly and like their idols, its members have ended up touring the world. They have dates in Thailand in November and have only just got back from Germany, where they played 30 gigs.

However, Simpson knows that the real reason for their success is the strength of the music. He says that more often than not, gigs turn into sing-alongs.

Imagine… The Beatles do about 70 gigs a year, but with so many being overseas, the Cuffley Hall concert represents a rare opportunity to see them in the UK.
