The English singer and songwriter, Robyn Hitchcock, is due to appear in Oxford at the beginning of September.
This London-born surrealist artist and troubadour, in a 60-year career, has delivered over 30 albums and innumerable live shows. He initially played in bands, notably The Soft Boys, who were founded in 1976 and reimagined British psychedelia.
Hitchcock’s solo career kicked off with 'Black Snake Diamond Role' in 1981, offering original insights and surrealist lyrics. Hitchcock and The Egyptians formed in 1984, lighting up the college scene, but he reclaimed his acoustic roots with the 1990s 'Eye' album. The Soft Boys then reunited in 2001 to release 'Nextdoorland'.
Hitchcock has collaborated with numerous people. This encompasses REM, Johnny Marr, Gillian Welch, The Decemberists and Sean Ono Lennon, as well as the successful producer, Joe Boyd, with whom he worked on 2014's 'The Man Upstairs'.
Hitchcock relocated to Nashville in 2015, where he recorded the 2022 'Shufflemania!' album. He has also featured in several films, including Jonathan Demme's 1998 'Storefront Hitchcock' and continues to tour. His memoir '1967: How I Got There and Why I Never Left' was published earlier this year.
