Parking campaign underway across Oxford

A new parking initiative is helping the residents of Oxford to earn extra cash by encouraging them to rent out their unused driveways as parking spaces.

The demand for parking in Oxford is exceptionally high and this often outstrips supply. As well as being a busy commuter city, it is also a major UK tourist destination, so the battle for spaces is often tough.

The new system, put together by ParkLet.co.uk and Parkatmyhome.com, is being seen by many as a simple solution. The sites offer residents a safe and easy way to rent out their driveways to people looking to park their cars in return for a fee.

One Oxford resident who has been using the service said:

“It started off relatively booked, but now it’s nearly always booked. It’s mostly used by business people; people who use it for the train or the business school, or just to visit Oxford.”

Schemes like this are usually only successful if people are aware of what they offer, so the two firms may consider marketing this using printed communications like leaflets which can be distributed to homes across the region after being produced by a professional printing company in Oxford.

Residents letting out their parking spaces could earn up to £85 per month. The Director of ParkLet.co.uk said:

“We expect Oxford to be one of our largest growth areas.”

More information about the scheme can be found on the official company websites and by contacting the local council.
