Oxford date among American roots musicians tour stops

Bill Kirchen, the country/blues-rock guitarist, is due to play a gig in Oxford towards the end of July.

In a career spanning over 40 years, this singer/songwriter has travelled and performed worldwide. He was one of the founder members of the famous Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen, who early on, popularised American roots rock and roll.

Kirchen has produced eight well-received solo albums, toured with Nick Lowe, and played with both Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris. He was nominated for a 2001 Grammy, and the following year saw him ceremoniously inducted into the Washington DC Area Music Association Hall of Fame.

He also organises workshops and talks, including ones at venues like the Smithsonian Institute and Troy's Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. He was the lead speaker at an International Conference held in Memphis on Elvis Presley.

Cited by Guitar Player Magazine as a "Titan of the Telecaster," Nick Lowe has described him as:

"A devastating culmination of the elegant and funky...a really sensational musician with enormous depth."
