the east of the city.
Called Oxford Spires Sport and Fitness, this new facility is situated within Oxford Spires Academy and officially opened its doors to the general public on the 11th of January.
The gym was built as the result of a working partnership between the Fusion Lifestyle charity, Oxford City Council and Oxford Spires Academy, which is based on Glanville Road.
The school contributed in excess of £185,000 of its annual budget towards the construction of it, while the council provided the £500,000 bulk of the necessary funds. Its events, sport and leisure board member, Mark Lygo, attended the launch and told the Oxford Mail that:
“I think it’s a great gym. It’s got 38 stations with free weights, running machines, shower facilities and even free parking. What’s good is that everyone in the community can use it, apart from between 2pm and 4.30pm when it will be open to students.”
