The 2016 event proved to be a roaring success, with close to 1,000 residents choosing to get on their bikes and participate. Those interested in entering next year can now apply, and anyone who commits themselves before the end of the year will enjoy a discount.
Bike Oxford takes place over one day and offers entrants the option of 80, 50 or 25-mile rides. Whichever route entrants choose to participate in, the Oxford University Rugby Club will be the location where they begin and end their journey.
The first event took place in 2013 and its popularity has grown steadily since then. Local cycling club Cowley Road Condors is heavily involved in the organisation, with support from both the county and city councils.
The president of the club, Cheryl Reid, told the Oxford Times that:
“It’s brilliant to see Bike Oxford going from strength to strength. The event really makes an effort to appeal to a wide range of riders, so it fits perfectly with the friendly ethos of our club. It’s also a great day out.”
Bike Oxford 2017 will be taking place on May 7th and leaflet printers may be used to help spread the word.
