Plans announced to improve junction in Leeds

Leeds City Council has announced plans for major improvements to one of the city’s busiest junctions, with the aim of making it easier for pedestrians, cyclists and buses to navigate.

These plans would see a number of additional bus lanes added to the junction at Dawson’s Corner, alongside cycle lanes and pedestrian crossings. In total, the project is expected to cost in the region of £335,000 to complete, but a report that has been published by the council argues that it is necessary as cyclists and walkers currently have to manoeuvre around it to be able to get across the road there.

If the project goes ahead, new crossing areas for those travelling on foot or by bicycle would be added to all of the roads at the junction, with this being linked to the building of the Leeds to Bradford Cycle Superhighway. The additional bus lanes will be at the A647 Bradford Road and the B6157 Bradford Road.

When works of this kind are being undertaken, the local council sometimes turns to print shops that can provide it with sign printing services to let people know what is happening.

The council report argues that the work will cut journey times and bus delays in addition to cutting pollution, with the hope being that planning permission will be given by January 2021.
