This annual festival enjoys considerable prestige among members of the UK literary community and it is the longest-running and biggest event of its kind for the north of the country. A number of major figures have already been signed up for this year’s festival, including the likes of Kirsty Walk, Prue Leith, Clare Balding and Alastair Campbell. The Professor of Poetry at Leeds University and current Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, will open the festival.
His presence will not be the only direct contribution that the university makes to the event, as writers who attend its Poetry Centre are set to give readings of some of their work.
