Cookridge Street and Victoria Gardens were the venues for the event, and local people of all ages chose to attend and enjoy a range of entertainment options with a military flavour.
These included the 4th Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment putting on a parade, and a flyover by one of the famous Spitfire planes that played such a huge role in the Battle of Britain during World War Two.
Among those there on the day were former servicemen, like Sam Cowley, aged 92, who hails from Rothwell, while Paul Thompson, 69, from the Yorkshire Malayan and Borneo Veterans Association took charge of a stall.
Mr Thompson told a reporter from the Yorkshire Evening Post that:
“The day was wonderful, we couldn’t have asked for any more. The crowd was estimated at around 15,000 at the time of the Spitfire flyover.”
Local events like this can turn to places providing postcard printing in Leeds if they want to be able to offer attendees the chance to purchase themed souvenirs.
Judith Chapman, Leeds’ Lord Mayor, was also in attendance, while some of the soldiers visited the Woolpack pub set from Emmerdale to present the emblem of their regiment, which will be displayed there.
