Leeds will be hosting eight of the games in total. Seven are set to be played at Emerald Headingley Stadium, including the prestige opening fixture for the women’s event, which will be between the host nation and Brazil. The other chosen venue in the city is Elland Road, which will be used for the semi-final of the men’s tournament.
This event means that lots of colourfully clad fans from all different countries will be visiting the city, including Brazilians, the Irish, Jamaicans and New Zealanders. Large sporting events such as these are frequently advertised with the use of local flyer printing.
Talking to the Ilkley Gazette, Judith Blake, the leader of Leeds City Council, stated that:
“Leeds has a strong, world-class tradition as a sporting city; from hosting the World Triathlon annually to the UCI Road World Championships and the Cricket World Cup in 2019.”
She added that everyone in the city was proud it had been picked to host big games in the two World Cups.
The men’s Rugby League World Cup 2021 runs from October 23rd to November 27th, while the women’s runs between November 13th and 27th.
