A restaurant and takeaway in Leeds frequented by cricket and rugby league players in the city for decades has enjoyed a major refurbishment – for the first time in around 80 years.
Brett's, in the Headingley area, has stayed more or less the same since being launched by Arthur Brett in 1921, who began to sell fried fish suppers from his cottage.
In recent years, the shop has been owned and run by Peter and Anne Scott, and they provided sports players and fans at cricket and rugby league matches with fish and chips for a decade and a half, before they sold it in the summer.
Now, the new owners have opted for major refurbishment, spending £80,000 on new décor, including blue, white and yellow tiling, in tribute to rugby league team Leeds Rhinos. Further, they can use full colour printing in Leeds if they want to produce dynamic promotional materials showcasing the changes.
The relaunch party for the eatery, now called Charlie Brett’s, was attended by three stars from Leeds Rhinos – Mitch Achurch, Brad Singleton and Jamie Peacock.
Fiona Gibson, one half of the father-daughter team now running the shop, stated that the food would be prepared in the same way, but that they had wanted to bring the look of the shop into the modern era.
