An actor who counts playing the iconic part of Doctor Who among his many roles has been lined up as one of the headline performers at this year’s Leeds International Festival of Ideas.
Christopher Eccleston portrayed the character in the first series of its revival, back in 2005, and has also starred in movies such as Shallow Grave and 24 Hour Party People. Now he will be appearing at the annual Festival of Ideas in Leeds alongside the likes of Divina De Campo, a drag queen, and Naga Munchetty, a presenter for BBC television news.
Eccleston’s contribution to the event is set to be called ‘Arts and Culture – For the Many; or the Few’ and will see him discuss the importance of working class people being given opportunities within the industry. Eccleston himself comes from a working class Salford background, but went on to earn a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama before rising to worldwide fame.

The festival is a three-day event that will also cover topics such as what currencies will look like in the future and the rule of law. It takes place from 27th to 30th September.
