It is a little-known fact that Leeds is the birthplace of cinema, having been the site where the first silent film was shot in 1888.
Today, the city is a leading cultural hub for filmmaking in the UK. Fans of the big screen in Leeds come together each year to celebrate this reputation with an international film festival, which takes place every November.
Next month, Leeds will host the festival in its 36th year, as it takes place across the city and spills over into Bradford. The festival will showcase films spanning over 78 countries during the two-week period.
