Pupils and members of staff from schools in the city leapt at the opportunity to dress as the likes of Robin Hood, Goldilocks, the Queen of Hearts and Gangsta Granny.
Furthermore, some of the city’s schools went even further to celebrate the day, by having the pupils perform scenes from their favourite stories or shoot film trailers for Books they love.
In one example of this, Harehills Primary School saw over 730 children attend a number of specially organised assemblies, where their fellow pupils performed the scenes they had put together.
Jo Summerfield, Harehills’ head teacher, was clad as Snow White for the day, and she told the Yorkshire Evening Post:
“The children were really excited and as I went round school they all wanted to talk to me about who their characters were from their favourite books and their reasons for choosing them.”
Unique events like this often employ full colour printing in Leeds and other areas, to provide lively Posters and decorations that add to the fun.
World Book Day has been a fixture on the calendar for 18 years and more than 100 countries around the world celebrate it, with over 14 million special book tokens distributed across the UK this year.Get a Free Quote for Posters Get a Free Quote for Books
