What's Happening in Leeds, England…

Carnival returns to Leeds this summer

It will be time for people in Leeds to get out onto the streets and party again this summer, with the news that the popular Leeds Carnival is to return for its 55th year.

This exciting celebration of West Indian music and culture will take to the streets around Harehills, Roundhay and Chapeltown after two years of being restricted to a virtual event due to Covid-19. The festival will be kicking off at 6am to mark Jouvert Morning, which is the traditional beginning of the event. However, the main parade and festivities are scheduled for 2pm.

One aspect that will be missing this year is the show featuring the King, Queen, Prince and Princess of the carnival. This has been scrapped for the 2022 event, due to a shortage of time to create the quality outfits needed for it.

Poster printing by shops in Leeds can be just as effective as online advertising in getting the word out across the city about events like this.

According to Leeds Live, a spokesperson for the event stated that:

“After a two-year absence, Leeds West Indian Carnival are pleased to announce that we will be back on the road this year for our 55th annual carnival where once again fantastic costumes will be on display.”

This carnival is scheduled to take place on the August Bank Holiday Monday.
