Betfred Championship Summer Bash headed to Leeds

The Betfred Championship Summer Bash is set to return this year after a three-year absence due to Covid-19, and Leeds will be hosting it for the first time.

This tournament sees all 14 of the rugby league clubs that play in the Championship take part against each other. It was added to the UK sporting calendar seven years ago and, up until now, it has always been held at the Bloomfield Road home of Blackpool. However, the 2022 tournament will be played at Leeds Rhinos' Headingley Stadium.

It will consist of seven games, which will count as a 27th round of fixtures in the current season. This means it could have a real impact on which teams claim places in the play-offs and possible promotion.

Flyer printing provided by shops in Leeds is one way that local sports events like this can be advertised nearer the time.

The seven games that will make up the Summer Bash have been chosen to capitalise on local rivalries – with Widnes Vikings up against Barrow Raiders and Workington Town facing Whitehaven.

According to Leeds Rhinos website, Chief Commercial Officer for the RFL Mark Foster said:

β€œIt’s an exciting line-up of fixtures which will showcase the quality of the teams and players in the Betfred Championship, and Headingley Stadium will be a fitting stage.”

The tournament takes place on 30th to 31st July.
