New program in Hampshire to support thousands of jobs
A regeneration scheme at an old naval site should lead to support for over 3,000 local jobs.
The scale of the £38 million initiative near Fareham means that Southampton could benefit. Printers from Southampton Hedge End could be used to promote some of the new firms. Gary Jeffries, the chairperson for Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (SLEP), told the Daily Echo:
Mr. Jeffries added that the regeneration drive was transforming the area. Further, he said that firms in need of a dynamic location should have a look at what was available on the site.
The local county council said that a fresh industrial unit will be fit for purpose during the summer of 2016. £2 million will be put into the building of the centre. This money will come from the Growing Places Fund (GPF), which is under government control. An important access road will also benefit from central government backing.
The initiative has already led to some job creation before the latest announcements. The Fareham Innovation Centre (FIC) has been open for some months. FIC is over 75 per cent full and more than 15 businesses make use of the existing facilities.

“The improved access road will directly serve a new employment area at Daedalus Park in the southern part of the Enterprise Zone in Gosport and is essential to opening up the wider waterfront area for regeneration.”
