Hedge End to host calligraphy masterclass
An introduction into traditional calligraphy techniques will take place in Hedge End, Southampton in March.
The d.@rt Centre based on Wildern Lane in Hedge End is inviting those interested in the traditional art of calligraphy to come down and take part in an introductory course, entitled ‘Foundational Hand’. While traditional calligraphy is originally taken from ancient manuscripts, today it’s employed for multiple uses including creating elegant lettering in cards, advertisements and wedding stationery.
The class will be expertly taught by accredited tutor Sunita, who is part of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society, and possesses CraftCourses.com Gold status rewarded for outstanding feedback. Those participating will be guided on the various principles of calligraphy including layout, spacing and basic letter forms with step by step instruction.
Organisers of local courses can use poster printing services to create attractive one-sheets to advertise in public buildings such as libraries and community centres.
Delegates of all skill levels are welcome, whether they are novices or intermediates looking to brush up their abilities. While most of the materials are included within the ticket price, such as ink and broad edged pens, those attending are asked to bring an empty jar to put water in, a ruler, pencil and a whole roll of kitchen paper.
The morning class illustrating calligraphy skills will begin at 10am on Saturday, March 7. Lunch along with refreshments will be provided on the day.
