Healthcare company unveils new building plans
A firm providing care for people in the Southampton area has announced its intention to develop a new nursing complex – a move that could see more than 80 jobs created.
St Cloud Care has put a proposal together for a 70-bed, four-storey facility, which company bosses are saying would cost around £3m.
According to St Cloud, the new home in Hythe would provide residents with access to a hydrotherapy pool and a number of treatment rooms.
The news comes after plans for three new “super care homes” were announced. These would be built nearby in Fair Oak, Netley Abbey and Romsey as part of a multimillion pound initiative leading to the creation of around 300 new jobs.
It is thought that Hartford Care began considering Hampshire as a location for the new network of homes following the success of its new Lyndhurst facility, which is currently experiencing one new resident moving in every week.
Work on the development in Fair Oak, Sunnybank House, is already underway, with the 60-bed building scheduled to open its doors next summer. The slightly larger Netley Abbey home will have space for 65 beds, as well as nine residential apartments on Victoria Road.
The final project, in Romsey, will begin at Abbotswood in spring next year.
With its own application, St Cloud is hoping to remedy the shortage of places in nursing homes around the New Forest. No doubt printing companies in Southampton will be called upon to provide informative brochures should the proposals get the green light.
