University applicants who do not achieve the grades they expected may still have a chance to enter higher education thanks to advertisements promoting the opportunities available through a process called Clearing.
UCAS - the University and Colleges Admission Service - runs the Clearing process every summer after A-Level results are announced to help those who might not have got into their first choice of school.
A number of universities and colleges are advertising their remaining available places using poster printing, with ads appearing on public transport and in places where school leavers are likely to pass by on a regular basis. These Posters may prove crucial to the academic lives of many students and also help the universities and colleges to fill empty places. The materials have been produced using eye-catching slogans and full colour printing.
Cambridge and Oxford universities may not be amongst those offering places through Clearing, but many respected higher education establishments will be helping students to re-plan their future over the summer. For example, the Communications Officer for London’s Birkbeck University, Guy Collender, spoke about the range of opportunities on offer in a recent interview. He said:
"This year there is an unprecedented range of degrees offered during Clearing, and Birkbeck will also be hosting a Clearing open day on Saturday 17 August to support students before courses begin.”
A-Level results are published later this month and UCAS will be offering advice to students who are looking to go through the Clearing process.
