What's Happening in Cambridge, England…

Music festival could return to Cambridge

Plans have been put forward for the return of an iconic music festival to Cambridge next year, after this year’s event was cancelled for financial reasons.

Cambridge Folk Festival is among the longest-running events dedicated to traditional music in the UK. It was first launched in 1965 and has hosted some of the biggest stars of folk music over the years. Sinead O’Connor, Billy Bragg and Van Morrison are just three of the major musicians who have appeared at the festival. Despite its reputation though, the festival did not happen this year due to costs.

Cambridge City Council is reporting that last year’s event made a loss of £320,000. Now a proposal is on the table to bring it back in 2026, but in a reduced form. Instead of performances at multiple different venues, the entire festival would take place at Cherry Hinton Hall.

When people are attending local events like music festivals, they often like to take banners with them. Shops in Cambridge that offer banner printing can help with this.

If the revised plans for the folk festival are given the go ahead, two stages would be set up at Cherry Hinton Hall. There would also be facilities for camping.

The council has stated that the event would retain its commitment to supporting up and coming musicians, on both a national and local scale.
