The company behind the new jobs, Xaar, caters for the industrial market and the 60 vacancies will be created at the firm’s site in Huntingdon. Xaar has also said that this is just the start and that there will be more jobs to come.
Xaar was set up in the city in 1990 and it remains true to its roots today, choosing to expand the factories the firm started in, as opposed to relocating elsewhere for cheaper rates.
The firm’s Cambridge plant recently completed an expansion project which saw the company spend £22 million on increasing the factory’s output capability, with a further £10 million investment in the pipeline which will allow the company to meet increasing demand from global Print companies.
Cambridge jobseekers will no doubt be interested in the news and Mark Alexander, Xaar’s marketing director, explained what the recruitment team will be looking for, saying:
“We are looking for people with a can-do attitude and initiative. If they have the basic skills we will develop and train them.
“We are having to increase capacity again because of the demand. We feel very positive about it. It is a programme of growth and investment.”
The investment in Xaar shows that there is still a growing demand for equipment from global printing companies and the Cambridge economy will no doubt benefit from the creation of new jobs.
