The charity has a base in Godmanchester, which is located in the middle of Cambridgeshire. Godmanchester is a little town, but the centre had almost 25 black cats when it made its plea to the public. Staff at the hub chose to dress up like cats on Halloween weekend to help advertise their cause.
Cats with black fur are not always the most popular with would-be feline owners. This means that Wood Green could be obliged to have a similar campaign next Halloween, when it could choose to use printing services in Cambridge to produce relevant leaflets.
People may be deterred from looking after black cats because of superstition. Moreover, some individuals can assume that a black feline has a higher chance of being run over by a vehicle in the dark than a lighter animal would be. Furthermore, not everybody thinks that black cats show to best advantage in photographs.
However, cats of all colours can be highly photogenic, according to expert Juliette Jones, who is a cat specialist at Wood Green. The charity has other hubs in London and Heydon.
Jones has told Cambridge News:
“Just like their patterned and more brightly coloured friends they make wonderful companions and certainly shouldn't be judge by their colour.”
