Organisers of a charity race in Cambridge are aiming to raise £70,000 to help take them over a fundraising landmark of £1 million.

The Chariots of Fire race has been an annual event for the last 22 years and has, thus far, raised an astonishing £932,000 for many charities and worthy causes.

This year’s beneficiaries of the fundraiser will be the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity (ARHC). Proceeds and donations will be going towards the charity’s crusade to construct a new hospice located in Cambridge, which would allow the organisation to double its capacity to cater for on-site palliative care patients.

Cambridge locals always turn out in force for the event, whether they are completing the race themselves or supporting from the side-lines, and this year is expected to be no different. The race has seen a successful promotional campaign that has made use of poster printing and social media to attract applicants.

The organisers continue to be impressed with the support shown to the event – which is happening on Sunday 21st September – by the community of Cambridge each year, which has helped many charities in its time, including Barnardo’s, Emmaus and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

It has been calculated that to reach the £70,000 target, each runner would have to raise £33 in sponsorship.
