Cambridge City Council has granted approval to the Plans, with the chosen site for the new branch being 393 Newmarket Road. The company will be renovating and repurposing a building that used to be home to Wickes, with part of this set to see parking spaces cut to 114, from the current 124.
When it opens, it will become the second Cambridge branch of Aldi, with the relative inaccessibility city centre branch being a key reason for the approval of a second store. Another was the stated commitment in the application to create jobs for 50 people, none of which will be zero-hours contract positions.
When businesses open new stores, they can use marketing strategies such as promotional product giveaways that can help drum up support and entice new customers.
According to Cambridge Live, Aldi also said in its application that the location of the new outlet would be much more convenient for people:
“The store will be just the second Aldi in the city – our existing store at Histon Road is very popular, with many customers travelling a long way to shop there.”
