An artificial sports pitch at a site in Cambridge is set to be given an upgrade, with the confirmation that Cambridge City Council has given its seal of approval to the Plans.
The pitch on Coldhams Common is a 2G one, but is not in a good state of repair. At a recent meeting of the council’s planning committee, one of the planning officers stated that it has suffered a lot of wear and tear through frequent use. It was laid more than a decade ago and has mostly been deployed for playing hockey games.
Now it will be replaced by a 3G pitch that better suits football. Another argument made by those seeking to upgrade it is that Cambridge now has plenty of other hockey pitches, so creating a football one at the site makes more sense.
One of the ways in which the council can advertise sports activities that are available at local pitches like this one is by using flyer printing created and supplied by shops within Cambridge.
In addition to the new pitch, the site will also get 50 spaces for parking vehicles. A fence will be erected around the facility too, which is intended to help keep potential vandals out.
Naomi Bennett from the council said that people were keen on the upgrade, as the pitch is mostly unused right now.
